Crescent City California and environs

Crescent City is named for the beautiful crescent beach just south of town.
Today we scouted out some tours the guests will take while here in Crescent City. The "Trees of Mystery" just south in Klamath, provides a gondola ride among the tops of giant redwoods allow a spectacular view of the valley below. Further south we travel nine miles on the Newton B. Drury scenic by-way to see more giante redwoods and an area of Roosevelt Elk. On our own, as it is not on the tour, we drove to the coast to hike up Fern Canyon, one of the most unique areas around. Five species of ferns grow here.

Later we drove through Jedediah Smith Redwoods State park, part of the World Heritage Site the park preserves major stands of old-growth redwood groves and conifer forests. It is a gravel road with spectacular views of the monster redwoods.
